How to Get Rid of Tires Safely and Properly

how-to-get-rid-of-tires-safely-and-properly

Removing tires from your possession can be quite challenging if you don’t know your state’s disposal regulations. Tires are one of the most difficult waste products to dispose of, knowing that not all garbage collectors or landfills accept them. So, if you are facing this problem, our waste management services in Louisiana would like to help you.

First of all, let’s look at what the Louisiana government says about proper waste tire removal: “Waste tires that are not subjected to processing or recycling may not be deposited knowingly and intentionally in a landfill as a method of ultimate disposal. However, notwithstanding any other law or rule to the contrary, waste tires that have been prepared for disposal by cutting, separating, shredding, or other means in accordance with the rules or standards of the department may be disposed of in a landfill.”

Illegal disposal of waste tires includes burning the tires or discarding them without legal authority. Our waste disposal service suggests contacting your local landfill or your local tire dealership to help you find better ways to get rid of your tires.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality requires tire dealers to collect a waste tire cleanup and recycling fee at the time of the retail sale of:

  • $2.25 for each passenger/light truck tire,
  • $5 for each medium truck tire, and
  • $10 for each off-road tire, and
  • $1.25 for each recapped or retreaded tire.
